CARNIVAL OF SOULS in Color / Harcourt Productions - 1962

Welcome everbloody to Friday Frights with Tabonga, here at The Dungeon!.. Tonite we have a special reprise of an older post, this time in undead color! If you don't know the storyline of this flick filmed in Lawrence, Kansas by now, well, shame on you! Tabonga's not your parrot!

It starts so innocently, a simple drag race between guys and gurls... An early sixties battle of the sexes.

But, it's the same old story, them crazy wimmen drivers!

Composer Gene Moore gives us some great sleazy juke-box background music for the sleaze being dished out in this sleazy little bar scene soundclip Eegah!! has put together for our listening enjoyment...

Now, it's time to bring in that little 6-eyed fuzzy Dungeon fiend, Ralphie The Tarantula, so that he can be pushing the big red 'GO' button and start our Eariffic Earclip for... CARNIVAL OF SOULS!

Candace Hilligoss plays Mary Henry, the only survivor of the accident, and, she's got the religion now! She's also the organist at the church. That's her blue Chevy Biscayne there.

Mary relocates to another church and city. She tries to relax a little with a bath, but, lover boy John can't help knocking loudly on the door to bug her with his lousy social skills!

Johnny boy peeks while she changes out of her towel...

Mary becomes very curious about the abandoned amusement park outside of town, so, pays it a visit.

Herk Harvey plays 'The Man' who is following her around, this is the only film he produced, but, has 46 directing credits which consists of mainly shorts. His last directing assignment was READING RAINBOW for kid's TV!

A few days after visiting the amusement park, Mary starts playing the organ as if possessed by the Devil, so, she's fired on the spot by the minister!

John replays that certain song Mary seems to like on the juke-box.

Oops, there's his pal, Chip! John doesn't want Mary to think that he knows creeps like him, though!

John's starting to think this chick's from Weirdsville!

Mary tries to leave town on the Greyhound, but, she's allergic to zombies!

It's almost certain that she's losing her freaking mind!

This pic would make a great album cover!

I swear, looks like it'd be a lot of fun, being a zombie!

At the end, it's back to reality, the car is found and pulled out of the river, this time with Mary and her friends inside, all dead!

Ghoulnight Everbloody!!..

Hey! My copy is in B & W!
But it says it is the complete, restored version, and starts with a commentary by someone that was cut off at the beginning. (Oops) It may be the director. He wanted a "Bergman" quality to the film!
